Baidyapur Ruins
Overview
Baidyapur, once a prosperous zamindari village, now holds scattered ruins of palatial homes and temples. It’s a rarely visited spot perfect for history and photography lovers.
Details
Among the overgrown banyan roots and faded walls lie inscriptions and terracotta panels. Locals still preserve oral histories about its former glory.
Baidyapur Jora Deul in Purba Bardhaman district, West Bengal, features two ancient brick-built temples, joined together by a passage, and is a ASI-listed monument. Built around 1550 by Subhananda Pal, the temples exhibit carved brick facades and were originally thought to have domed tops. The Jora Deul (twin temples) are known for their distinct "deula" style, characterized by long shikhara-like structures.
