Mukutmanipur
Scenic Reservoir
Mukutmanipur, located in the Bankura district of West Bengal, is a picturesque and tranquil destination centered around a massive earthen dam built at the confluence of two rivers: the Kangsabati and the Kumari. This impressive dam, often cited as the second-largest earthen dam in India, was constructed for irrigation purposes but has inadvertently created a vast, serene reservoir that stretches for miles, resembling a giant emerald necklace amidst the rolling red laterite hills of the region. The sheer expanse of the azure water, framed by the surrounding green forests and mysterious hillocks, gives Mukutmanipur its distinct charm and the feeling of a crown ("Mukut") over a jewel ("Manipur"). It's an ideal getaway for those seeking peace, natural beauty, and a break from urban life.

Visitor Reviews
Overcrowded and Unclean During Peak Season! by Tapas Das
I visited Mukutmanipur during a holiday, and it was a complete mess! The picnic spots were overflowing with garbage, and the crowds ruined any sense of peace. The boat operators were haggling for fares, and the entire experience felt unorganized and unhygienic. They need to manage tourism better to preserve its beauty. Angry

Picturesque, But Limited Activities by Sayan Ghosh
Mukutmanipur is undeniably scenic, with the huge dam and hills. It's good for photography and a relaxing day. However, beyond the dam and a couple of viewpoints, there isn't much else to do, especially if you're not into picnics. The local food options were also quite basic. Decent for a short visit, but perhaps not for a long stay. Meh
