Overview

Located 10 km from Medinipur town, Karnagarh Fort was once the seat of the ruling Dhalbhum kings and later became a site of resistance during the Chuar Rebellion against British rule in the 18th century.

The ruins feature temple complexes, underground chambers, and laterite fortifications. It’s significant for its role in the first tribal uprisings against colonialism.The Karnagarh Fort, located in the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal, is a significant historical site. It's the ruins of a fort built by Rani Shiromani, who led a revolt against the British in 1798. The fort's stone structure, once spanning 3 km, was divided into two sections, the andar mahal for the royal family and the sadar mahal for others. Portions of the walls, temples, water tanks, and barracks still remain within the fort compound.
