What it is: Jhandi Dara is a quiet hilltop viewpoint nestled near Lava and Gorubathan in the Kalimpong subdivision, offering panoramic sunrise and mountain views, including the majestic Kanchenjunga.

When to Visit: Best visited between October and May, when skies are clear, temperatures are pleasant, and visibility of the Himalayas is at its peak.

Where it is: Located in the Dooars region, about 60–70 km from Darjeeling, near the Bhutan border. Though technically closer to Kalimpong, it’s often explored during extended Darjeeling nature and heritage circuits.

Itinerary

Day Itinerary  6:00 AM – Early Morning: Departure from Darjeeling Drive through scenic tea gardens and misty forests toward Gorubathan (~3 hours). Stop for tea at a local stall en route to experience rustic life.

9:00 AM – Reach Jhandi Dara Viewpoint: Witness the breathtaking panoramic sunrise view over the eastern Himalayas. Capture photos and enjoy the quiet mountain breeze.

10:00 AM – Nature Walk & Pine Forest Exploration: Take a short guided nature walk through pine forests and orchid-filled slopes. Learn about native plants and the ecology of the Himalayan foothills.

12:00 PM – Visit a Local Lepcha Hamlet: Meet locals, understand traditional crafts, and visit a community-run organic farm. Optional: Try your hand at traditional weaving or cooking with locals.
