Celebrated in February or March, Losar is the Tibetan New Year and one of the most vibrant festivals in Kalimpong due to its sizeable Buddhist population. Centered around local monasteries, it marks the onset of a new lunar year and is filled with prayers, masked dances, and community feasts.

Monasteries like Zang Dhok Palri Phodang host special prayer sessions while local communities perform traditional Cham dances in colorful costumes. Houses are cleaned, and altars are decorated to welcome good fortune and drive away negative energy. Losar, the Tibetan New Year, is a significant festival celebrated in Kalimpong, West Bengal, by the Tibetan population. It typically falls in February and lasts for about a week. Losar is a time of festive celebration with traditional dances, including the Yak dance, and joyous gatherings. Monasteries also conduct Cham (Tibetan dance) during this period to ward off negative influences of the old year.
